Hollywood Park Project OK'd in Inglewood

The Inglewood City Council, as expected, gave final approval on July 8 to several zoning and specific plan amendments allowing the owners of Hollywood Park to replace the track with a massive real estate development.

ハリウッドパーク競馬場再開発で競馬場消滅の危機

SREFは2005年7月、関連会社のベイメドウズランド社（Bay Meadows Land Co.）を通してチャーチルダウンズ社（Churchill Downs Inc.）からハリウッドパーク競馬場を2億6000万ドル（約260億円）で買収した。その目的が競馬以外であることは直ちに推測できたが、新所有者のベイメドウズランド社のテリー・ファンチャー（Terry Fancher）氏はその時、少なくともあと3年は競馬場の経営を続行すると約束していた。

Developer Wilson Meany Sullivan has put a $2 billion price tag on the 238-acre mixed-use project, which it has titled, "Hollywood Park Tomorrow." Its current scope entails 620,000 square feet of retail space (shops, restaurants and a giant movie theater complex), 75,000 square feet of general office space, a 300-room hotel and convention center, about 3,000 houses, a rebuilt casino and gambling facility (to replace the one adjacent to the racetrack) and 25 acres of park or open space.

店舗、飲食店、シネコン、ホテル、コンベンションセンターや、カジノを立て直し、さらにギャンブルの施設もあり、あれやこれや。
で、市議会がこの計画を承認する見込みなのにも理由があり、Last Year for Hollywood? Not So Fastにある表のように税収入が落ち込んでいると。それならば再開発を、というのも分らなくもない。

The owners have promised to keep Hollywood Park open through the end of of 2009 and would provide the racing industry in California with six-month notice before closing the track.

で、Hollywood Parkの今後については今年中の開催は約束し、閉鎖6か月前に通告すると。いつ閉鎖かは分からんね。
まあ行ったことがない競馬場だけれど、んー、惜しいね。
