Champs Elysees named Sovereign Awards

2009年のSovereign Awards発表。Horse of the Yearは Champs Elysees 。でも、アメリカ調教馬。
ヨーロッパ調教馬がBreeders’ Cupでの勝利だけでEclipse Awardsの部門賞を受賞するってのは珍しくもないけれど、カナダでも外国馬が受賞できるのねえ、と今更ながら。で、メモとして。

The British-bred, by world-class sire Danehill, made the required three starts in Canada (he actually started four times) to be eligible for a Sovereign Award.

Sovereign Awards > Rules & Regulations

To be eligible to receive a Sovereign Award in these divisional categories a horse must race in Canada at least two times as a two year old and three times for all horses 3 year old and up, prior to the date of the distribution of ballots during the year in which the Award is earned. This rule applies to both Canadian-bred and foreign-bred horses.

年に最低3度（2歳は2度）カナダで出走すれば受賞の資格はあると。ちなみにカナダ産馬、カナダ国外産馬ともにこのルールが適用されると。
Champs Elysees は昨年カナダでどうだったかと言うと、Canadian International (G1)を勝ち、Sky Classic (G2)で2着、Northern Dancer Turf Stakes (G1)で4着入線3着に繰り上がり、Nijinsky Stakes (G2)で3着などなど。
勝ちまくったわけでもないし、出走したのは芝ばかりだったけど、

Champs Elysees collected 118 voting points and beat out Milwaukee Appeal, the champion 3-year-old filly of 2009 who had 50 points, for the Horse of the Year trophy.

Champs Elysees の得票は118で、次点の Milwaukee Appeal は50と大差の決着だったと。
